The former Spurs striker enjoyed a two-and-a-half year spell at White Hart Lane

Mido was back in London last week visiting his old club Spurs and was present at Wembley Stadium on Saturday to watch them defeat Fulham 3-1.

Goals from Lucas Moura, Kieran Trippier and Harry Kane earned Tottenham Hotspur all three points in Brent.

It made it two wins out of two for Mauricio Pochettino’s men and was another solid response to those who criticised the Lilywhites for failing to do any business during the summer transfer window.

Mido, who spent time at White Hart Lane between January 2005 and August 2007, was on Sky Sports News last Friday and insisted Tottenham’s manager was not happy with the lack of activity.

But the popular Egyptian forward admitted the way Pochettino has handled the initial aftermath shows his class and is one of many reasons why Spurs must do everything they can to keep him in N17 for a long time.

“I know Pochettino has not been happy with the transfer policy, especially this transfer market, but I am glad he is not coming out and criticising the club,” Mido told Sky Sports News.

“He is working with the players he has got, he is giving the squad the confidence to win games and the easiest thing for Pochettino to do would have been to go out and attack the board because he wanted more players in.

“I am sure he wanted more players in like (Jose) Mourinho and Rafael Benitez, but Pochettino is so clever.

“If you see his interview on Thursday, he said ‘he didn’t want anyone at the club who is not happy’ because the key to Pochettino’s success so far in my opinion is creating the right environment for the squad.

“He doesn’t want anyone to upset that and Pochettino is the son of (Marcelo) Bielsa. He came from the roots of Bielsa and all the sons of Bielsa, who played under him and went on to coach, become great coaches.

“I think Tottenham have one of the best managers in the world and they should do everything they can to keep Pochettino at the club for as long as they can.”
