Queues of festival-goers stretched for at least a mile down Homerton Road as excited crowds waited to get into the Radio One Hackney Weekend music festival earlier – and the BBC urged visitors to tomorrow’s event to arrive in plenty of time.
The line of revellers was kept moving, slowly but steadily, towards the event on Hackney Marshes, and festival-goers told the Gazette they were queuing from between 30 minutes to over an hour in some cases.
The road is set to be shut between 7pm and 2am tonight.
Stringent security measures saw police dog handlers wandering through the lines and metal detectors and bag searches completed the airport-style checks at the entrances.
