Commuters were dealt a pleasant surprise on Saturday when a musical festival took to the tracks, with live performances along the East London Line.

The Sound Tracks Festival saw musicians travelling up and down the line from New Cross through Shoreditch to Dalston.

Organisers Amanda Lwin and Carolina Garcia were inspired to create the festival when they realised the recently extended railway line links communities with strong musical identities, and convinced Transport for London (TfL) and train operator LOROL to allow musicians on board.

Amanda Lwin said it had been such a success they are planning another for next year if they can secure sponsorship.

“Tfl were very nervous beforehand, they didn’t want any problems or delays they might get fined for, but by the end of the evening they were extremely happy and they are all up for it next year,” she said.
