London’s first 100 per cent vegan doughnut shop has been forced to close due to tenancy issues.
The Dough Society in Hackney Central, described as London’s first 100 per cent vegan donut shop, took to social media last week to share the sad news, saying it was “very upset” at having to close.
The shop in Dispensary Lane off the Narrow Way opened in January, but the shutters have come down as founders Lauren and Ed Watts are unable to meet the terms of the lease.
Dough Society sold a variety of doughnuts and worked to ensure they had a limited impact on the environment. It is not known whether its stalls at the Hackney Downs Vegan Market and Sourced Market in King’s Cross will continue.
In a Facebook post, the company said: “We simply cannot meet the tenancy demands set by our landlords. It is very upsetting, as we have put our own time and money into running this business but we sadly have to turn our neon lights off.”
