A new 3km cycle route linking up two wetlands in Hackney and Waltham Forest has opened to the public.

The ‘Wetlands to Wetlands’ greenway joins Woodberry Wetlands to Walthamstow Wetlands.

It allows cyclists to avoid busy roads like Amhurst Park and Seven Sisters Road by linking parks, marshland, quiet roads and towpaths.

A £120,000 grant from the Mayor of London’s Big Green Fund has paid for the 3km route to be signed and lit, tracks laid, and trees planted.

A cycle ramp over Spring Hill bridge allows cyclists to wheel their bikes over the River Lea and into Walthamstow Wetlands.

Further work is planned by Hackney Council, Waltham Forest Council and the London Wildlife Trust at some junctions to improve the route, which will link up with other ‘quietway’ routes to central London, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Walthamstow.
