A brand new HIV unit is under construction at Homerton Hospital after a successful fundraising Fun Run took part last weekend.

The 10k run took place on Saturday, September 15, from the hospital at 10am and the 3k run from 11.30am, taking the participants round the Hackney marshes.

The challenge was due to be held in April but was cancelled because of the wash-out weather.

Organiser Tonya Chalker said: “Every year we are delighted to welcome staff, friends and members of the local community who join us on this fun run for such an important and valued cause.”

The hospital, on Homerton Row, has been raising money through its Positive Lives Campaign to bring a new HIV hub for patients to receive services, appointments and resources on site.

The new unit hopes to create more areas for therapies, and space for voluntary and community organisations to run services as well as increasing the number of patients.
