Nicola Thorp’s flat shoes – which helped make a stand for female workers – have gone on display at Hackney Museum.
Six months ago the 27-year-old Hackney resident was sent home from work without pay for refusing to remove her flat, black shoes and put on high heels whilst working as a receptionist at PwC’s Embankment office.
The company Portico which ran the reception had a “female grooming policy”, which stated female colleagues must wear shoes with a heel height between two and four inches.
Nicola began a petition calling for a change in UK law to make it illegal for employers to require to women to wear high heels to work.
The petition has since gained over 148,000 signatures and is scheduled to be debated in parliament.
To coincide with a parliamentary inquiry, Ms Thorp has donated her shoes to the collection at the museum in Reading Lane.
