A Hackney nurse is taking on the challenge of a lifetime to help commemorate one hundred years since the execution of nurse Edith Cavell during the First World War and to raise money for the charity that looks after today’s nurses in crisis.

Susan Osborne, 62, who is a non-executive director in an NHS Foundation Trust and also provides consultancy to the NHS is supporting the 70-strong climbing team and taking part in aspects of the Mount Edith Cavell challenge in Jasper National Park in Canada which started on August 22 to raise money for Cavell Nurses’ Trust.

The challenge is part of the on-going centenary commemorations of Edith Cavell’s execution.

Susan, who received a CBE in 2005 and is a Trustee for the charity said: “It’s awful to think that someone who has spent their career caring for others could end up with no one caring for them. As a nurse I want to give something back.”
