The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority (LVRPA), will make a final decision tonight this Thursday whether to apply for Judicial Review to halt the controversial Essex Wharf development.
Waltham Forest Council granted planning permission to build four seven-storey blocks of flats in the Lee Valley Regional Park in January.
The towers would obstruct open views from Upper Clapton’s Millfields North recreation ground, across Leyton Marsh, and opponents claim the development betrays the ideals which lead to the creation of this “green lung” for London 45 years ago.The LVRPA referred the decision to the Secretary of State of Local Government and Communities for reconsideration, but Eric Pickles decided in March intervention would not be justified.
Campaigners handed the LVRPA a petition with over 300 signatures calling for a judicial review last month, but legals advisors have told the Park Authority the costs could be potentially very high if they lose the case, and that the chances of success are fairly low.
Neither the papers for the meeting nor the discussion are open to the public.
