Awestruck young swimmers at Hackney Aquatics Club had some extra-special coaching last weekend when bronze medal winning 100m breast stroke Paralympian, Harriet Lee, and Olympic 3m springboard diving finalist, Nick Robinson-Baker came for a visit.
The elite swimmers shared their experiences with the young swimmers with a poolside chat in the Clissold Leisure Centre, answering questions about what it was actually like to stand on the podium in the aquatic centre and to compete at that level.
They gave the youngsters some great tips about training and how to balance swimming with schoolwork and a social life before coaching them in their regular Sunday training session.
“Don’t be disheartened if friends don’t understand. They will want to know you when you are standing on the podium and you will be a stronger and better person and accomplish more in life,” Harriet Lee told them.
The visit was part of a Speedo Sunday session, one of five community events being held across London to inspire people to get into the pool and trial different swimming activities.
There are two more events at Eltham Leisure Centre on October 7 and Mile End Park Leisure Centre on October 14.
