Scott Parker says Tottenham can reflect on their fine festive form with pride – and he is now urging his team-mates to maintain their winning run in 2013.

Spurs were held to a goalless draw by Stoke on December 22 but back-to-back victories over struggling Aston Villa, Sunderland and Reading have taken them back into the top four.

Andre Villas-Boas’ side have now won eight of their last 10 games in all competitions, and Parker says the Lilywhites must keep their foot on the gas.

“We’ve had a very good Christmas - 10 points from our four games, which is pleasing,” he said. “We’ve done really well. We have a good side here with some good additions and we’ve looked solid.

“We’ve been good away from home and have picked up some good results. And at home, after quite a tricky start with some draws against teams we would expect to beat, we have done very well.

“We’re sitting pretty nicely in the league so hopefully now we can maintain that going into the new year.

“I looked at the table the other day and you see that from where we are down to seventh or eighth there are only a few points in it, so it’s tight. All we need to do is keep worrying about ourselves and keep on picking up results, which we have been doing.

“There was a little point last season where we dropped off. There is always going to be a point in the season where your form becomes patchy and it’s just about how long it lasts. You would like to think we can maintain the results we are getting and push on.”

Parker has recently returned from a long-term Achilles injury which ruled him out for the first half of the season, and the 32-year-old made his fifth substitute appearance of the campaign in the 3-1 victory over Reading on Tuesday.

“It’s good to be back,” he said. “It’s obviously been a while since I’ve been involved so the last few weeks have been pleasing, getting back into it and back amongst it.

“I was struggling with my Achilles for some time. I didn’t think I would be out for as long as I was to be honest, but I always thought I would get back to where I need to be and it’s just about hard work now.

“My Achilles is fine, I just need to put in some game time and get some good training under my belt to get match fit.”
