Plans have been submitted to demolish the front of the historic Clapton Tram Depot site and build two industrial units adjoining the existing sheds.

Owner Upper Clapton Ltd wants to carry on the development of the space it bought from Executec in 2014 during a row over proposals to flatten it and build 85 flats.

The application to build on what is now disused open space, previously a storage unit, suggests the site’s future will be secured.

That will be music to the ears of the workspaces, gallery, cinema, photographers studio, gym, florist, bike shop, brewery and restaurant that use it.

Lea Bridge’s Cllr Ian Rathbone, who fought to stop the flats development in 2011, said: “Given at one time it was going to be demolished it certainly looks like they want to continue to keep the building going. I’d urge people in the community to comment on the application.”

Anyone wanting to have their say on the plans will have to act quick as the deadline is on Monday.
