Archant’s Neil Metcalfe cast an eye over Scott Parker’s Spurs youngsters at Stevenage FC’s Lamex Stadium earlier today

They needed penalties but Tottenham Hotspur under-19s beat AS Monaco in the UEFA Youth League at Stevenage FC’s Lamex Stadium. Read who caught the eye of Archant’s Neil Metcalfe.

Brandon Austin – 7: One smart save from a Moussa Sylla snap shot and a nervy moment thanks to a bobble in the pitch. Comfortable with crosses and nothing he could do with the goal. One superb save in the shootout at a crucial time certainly helped his side.

Tariq Hinds – 7: Decent performance. Busy up and down the flank and around the park. Only minor criticism may be with one moment in the first half when he got caught in about three minds and gave the ball away cheaply. Everything else was very good though.

Jamie Reynolds – 7.5: Slight in stature but big of heart. Got forward once to great effect but may need to do that more if he is flourish at Tottenham. However, defensively, and lets not forget that is his bread and butter, he was calm and collected and stopped a lot of dangerous crosses.

Oliver Skipp – 7.5: I liked him. Typical number four in a deeper midfield role. Strong in the tackle and looked to pull the strings whenever he got the chance without being overly flash. Didn’t always come off but when does it ever? One I will be keeping my eye on.

Timothy Eyoma – 8.5: I pretended I was a centre-half when I was younger so have a certain affinity with them. And Eyoma was superb. He had a couple of nervous moments when he looked to play from the back. Always nice to see someone wanting to play football from every part of the pitch although may need to learn when to do it. But as a defender, he was exceptional. Spurs captain and led his team excellently too.

Brooklyn Lyons-Foster – 7: Exactly the same as his centre-half partner and a good foil for him too. Wanted to play it out from the back but was good in the air when needed and very calm under pressure.

Tashan Oakley-Boothe – 7: Tottenham were guilty of taking one or two many touches at times and he was one who exemplified that. Nothing wrong of course with a creative midfield player wanting to get on the ball but will need to learn when to give it quick and when to hold on. Still young and certainly has the talent.

Edmond-Paris Maghoma – 7: Another one in the same mould as Oakley-Boothe. Some of his passes were a little off their intended target but he was always looking for the ball and looking to get ahead of the strikers. That is never a bad thing but again needs to develop his distribution.

Kazaiah Sterling – 7: One header in the first half saw him leap ridiculously high and only a good save denied him. Then two chances late on hit the crossbar and brought another good save. And that was the problem. Didn’t get many other chances as for the rest of the time he was working hard as the focal point of a three-man attack, often on his own.

Jack Roles – 6.5: Started briskly but faded as the game went on. Always big pressure on any young player at Tottenham who wears the 10 shirt. I’ll not judge anyone on one performance but just needs to develop his consistency and be brave to go and take control of a game.

Keanen Bennetts – 7: Superb goal highlighted his undoubted talent but could have done more. Seemed to get himself into good areas but couldn’t always fashion a chance. And seems churlish to mention his defending for one so attack minded but left Reynolds a bit exposed at times.
