Candidates to hold one-to-one sessions with voters

A HUSTINGS will take place next week for Stamford Hill residents to meet candidates fighting the New River ward seat following the death of Conservative councillor Maureen Middleton.

Social action group Hackney Unites will be hosting the meeting at Stamford Hill Library in Portland Avenue from 6pm on Tuesday (September 7).

It will include one-to-one sessions with the five hopefuls and a question and answer session from 7.30pm.

Cllr Middleton, who was first elected to New River ward in 1998, died on July 30 after suffering a heart attack two days earlier. She was 68.

The five candidates who will be vying for votes at the by-election on September 16 are 26-year-old Stuart Coggins fighting for the Greens, Benzion Papier, 26, standing for the Conservatives, Labour’s candidate 28-year-old Jonathan Burke, Liberal Democrat Ben Mantis and independent candidate Darren Fraser.
