Jobsharing MPs: a jobshare too far?

PUBLISHED: 17:11 09 October 2012

Labour MP for Hackney for Hackney South, Meg Hillier, has floated the idea that there is "no practical reason" why two people "couldn't work out how to job share" - even in the job of Member of Parliament.

In a debate with Conservative MP David Amess on Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme on Saturday 29 September, Hillier said “we need to lead by example” and cited senior planning roles that are already jobshared.

But Amess, MP for Southend West, called the idea “absolutely raving bonkers” and said “this isn’t the sort of job that’s appropriate for jobsharing”.
