A new cycle lane offering better connections to the rest of London from Hackney was officially opened by Sadiq Khan’s cycling chief this morning.

Quietway 2 is a 12km route spanning from Bloomsbury to Walthamstow, which is part of the Mayor of London’s plan to encourage people to cycle. The initiative will add to London’s existing cycle network by connecting stretches such as the Cycle Superhighway 1 in De Beauvoir with Bloomsbury and, when Quietways 13 and 10 are finished, it will make it easier to get between London Fields and Angel.

Deputy mayor of Hackney, Cllr Feryal Demirci, was on the ride with mayor Phil Glanville and Will Norman.

She said: “With more Hackney residents cycling to work than in any other London borough, we’re proud to be launching Quietway 2, which has introduced a new direct link for people in Hackney to cycle into central London.”
