People will be encouraged to think about how their choices impact the world around them at a “sustainability day” to encourage a more energy-efficient lifestyle.

There will be stalls in Hackney Town Hall square in Mare Street on September 30 from 11am to 4pm, offering advice on recycling, growing your own food, lowering utility bills, insulation and cycling. Free refreshments and free family activities including face painting, a free smoothie bike and a giant “bumblebee” will be there on the day.

Councillors will be hosting a seminar on the day where attendees can quiz them on their eco plans.

The council’s energy chief Cllr Jon Burke said: “The council is working hard to decarbonise its consumption of energy, improve the sustainability of its housing stock, and deliver better air quality and green infrastructure.”
