The festival held on Hackney Marsh this summer has secured four nominations in this year’s UK Festival Awards, the industry awards which celebrate the best in music festivals.
The BBC Radio 1 Hackney Weekend, which saw global superstars Jay-Z and Rihanna take to the stage, has been nominated for Best Major Festival, Best New Festival, Best Dance Event and Best Headline Performance for Jay-Z.
Jason Carter, who was responsible for running the festival, said it was fantastic to see everyone’s hard work and effort recognised: “Hackney Weekend was the most ambitious event in Radio 1’s history which brought together 100,000 music fans to celebrate the best in UK and international music and shine a spotlight on to East London.”
The nominees were shortlisted by a panel of music journalists and the winners of each category will be decided by a public vote which is open until the end of October at www.festivalawards.com/vote.
