A breaking the ground ceremony has taken place at Pembury Circus, signifying the beginning of the monumental Lower Clapton regeneration project.
Long earmarked for regeneration, the land on the corner of Pembury Road and Dalston Lane has been disused since two blocks of bedsits and an underground car park on the site were demolished in 2005.
Now Bellway Homes and Peabody are working in partnership to deliver the regeneration project for the Pembury Estate nearby Clarence Road where the riots broke out in Hackney in 2011.
New homes will be built as well as over-55s accommodation, a new community centre and commercial space.
