About 60 residents were forced to flee their tower block in their nightclothes early this morning (Thursday) after a fire broke out on the tenth floor.
Six fire engines and 30 firefighters tackled the blaze in the 15-storey block in Belsham Street, Homerton, from 6.30am until just before 8am, but many of the residents had already evacuated the building before they arrived.
An ambulance crew treated a child and two adults for smoke inhalation at the scene, while fire crews from Kingsland, Homerton, Bethnal Green and Stoke Newington worked to extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
