The dormer roof of a three-storey terraced house in Albion Road, Stoke Newington was badly damaged by fire in the early hours this morning.

Around 10 residents, none of whom were injured, evacuated the house which had been converted into flats, before the London Fire Brigade arrived.

The emergency services were called at 4.45am and the fire was under control within less than two hours.

Four fire engines, two from Stoke Newington fire station, one from Holloway and one from Kingsland - which has been earmarked for closure under the Mayor of London’s cost cutting plans - went to the scene and 21 firefighters and officers tackled the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
