A hotel in Seven Sisters Road could be demolished to make way for flats if councillors give the go-ahead.

Nayra Investments wants to build a five-storey block with 25 homes on the site of The Majestic Hotel, which faces Finsbury Park.

The plans, set to go before councillors on Monday, include eight “affordable” homes, which at 32 per cent is some way short of the town hall’s policy of 50pc. But after reviewing the viability assessment, which outlines how much affordable housing a developer can afford, planners are satisfied eight is enough.

Four of those homes will be for social rent, with the other four “intermediate” – such as shared ownership.

Hackney planning officers wrote in a report: “On balance, it is considered that the proposed level of on-site affordable housing accords with the aims of policy while allowing a viable scheme to come forward to help alleviate local need.”
