Shoreditch artists tackle knife crime
PUBLISHED: 13:33 15 February 2012
A new outdoor gallery launched this month and kicked off with an exhibition by the charity Art Against Knives (AAK).
AAK, which was set up after the unprovoked 2008 stabbing of art student Oliver Hemsley in Shoreditch left the 21-year-old in a wheelchair, raises awareness about knife crime and hosts fundraisers and artistic workshops to try to tackle the problem.
The charity’s ‘New Beginnings’ exhibition features 18 pieces of work by young artists, at Boxpark, in Bethnal Green Road, Shoreditch.
For more information about the exhibition, which runs until February 29, visit www.artagainstknives.com, or visit http://www.boxpark.co.uk/aakfeb/ to find out about future exhibitions at the gallery.
