A whole-day conference in Shoreditch today is set to celebrate Hackney’s rising social enterprise movement.

‘Hackney: A Social Enterprise Borough’ at Hackney House in Curtain Road has been scheduled to mark Global Social Enterprise Day.

Organised by Hackney Co-operative Developments CIC, the conference will see the launch of the ‘Hackney is Social Manifesto’, by special guests Claire Dove, the government’s intermediary with the voluntary sector, and Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville.

The manifesto is a vision statement for a fairer society and a call for social and environmental change. Stakeholders like the Hackney Social Enterprise Partnership – a collaboration of companies, Hackney Council and the Shoreditch Trust – will share the commitments they plan to make. Talks, panels, breakout sessions and workshops will take place and a platform for people to share their social and environmental missions and their innovations.
