A Shoreditch resident has been among the employees of an energy company involved in a scheme to support and raise more than £45,000 for a teenage cancer charity.

Jonida Karaj, an E.ON employee, who lives off of Shoreditch High Street, became a volunteer at a music workshop organised by Teenage Cancer Trust and held at the Royal Albert Hall.

The opportunity to support the music workshops came about through E.ON’s sponsorship of Teenage Cancer Trust’s annual series of week-long fundraising concerts, at the Royal Albert Hall, featuring the likes of Van Morrison and The Who.

Young cancer patients from across the UK are invited to take part in the music workshops, where they can play instruments, write songs and meet new people.

Jonida said: “I signed up as soon as I heard we were supporting the Teenage Cancer Trust music workshops. Like some of the young people at the workshop, I don’t have a musical background, but it was more about encouraging those attending to find their confidence and get involved.”

“Being part of the workshop was both a humbling and uplifting experience, and one I don’t think I’ll forget. To witness these young people, who didn’t know each other, come together and compose and then perform their song was a privilege.”
