Mauricio Pochettino says he is happy to face six games in three competitions over the next 17 days – because it means Tottenham are still fighting on multiple fronts as the business end of the season approaches.

Spurs are gearing up to take on Italian outfit Fiorentina over two legs in the last 32 of the Europa League, and they also meet Chelsea in the Capital One Cup final on March 1 in addition to Premier League fixtures against West Ham, Swansea and QPR over the next two and a half weeks.

However, Pochettino says that fixture schedule is a sign of the squad’s success so far this season and that it should be viewed positively rather than as a potential problem.

“For me I prefer to play every three days because it’s a good sign we are in all competitions,” said the head coach.

“We have a strong squad for playing in the Europa League, the Premier League and the final of the Capital One Cup against Chelsea, and I am happy. There is not a special worry about that - all the squad are fit and we are in a very good way.

“This is our 42nd official game tomorrow in seven months and it’s important to manage the squad, to always analyse each case and each player after the games and then to be clever and select the best player to play in each game.”

Asked if the upcoming period will be the biggest challenge of his managerial career, Pochettino said: “Yes, maybe. I think it is a good challenge for us, for me personally, but I feel good. I am prepared to enjoy these moments.

“We have a lot of very tough games ahead and one final. It’s good for the club, good for our supporters and for our players, too. I don’t think too much. It’s about enjoying the moment and trying to prepare them in the best way for their next game.

“In football, you need to enjoy it. If not, it’s difficult to give your best. Football is emotion, you need to be in your best condition to play at your best level.”

Pochettino has reported that he has a full-fit squad to choose from.
