Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris says he is in no rush to join the list of players who have recently signed new contracts with the club.

Eight Spurs players agreed new contracts in September and, last week, Jan Vertonghen said his skipper is “among the best keepers in the world” and stated: “I hope Hugo is the next one to agree a new deal.”

However Lloris, who penned a five-year deal in July 2014, said: “At the moment I just think about the close future, the next game.

“I repeat that I feel very pleased to be a Spurs player and to be the skipper too. I feel very involved and I try to do my best for my team and my club. I don’t think at all about my future. I’m under contract too and there’s no rush to think about that.”

Lloris has underlined his importance to Tottenham with fine saves in the last two games, denying Bayer Leverkusen’s Javier Hernandez right on his goalline in Germany last Tuesday and then diverting Charlie Daniels’ close-range shot up onto the crossbar in the early stages of Saturday’s goalless draw at Bournemouth.

Spurs’ clean sheet on the south coast was their eighth time in their 13 outings in all competitions so far this season, and it extended their unbeaten record in the Premier League to nine games.

However, the Lilywhites failed to score for the second time in a row while drawing for the third successive match following their trips to West Bromwich Albion and Leverkusen - and Lloris took little satisfaction from the result at Bournemouth, despite the latest show of defensive solidity.

“We cannot be pleased with one point, it’s not enough,” he said. “We are more ambitious than that - but sometimes it’s football and it’s up and down.

“The feeling is good because we have another clean sheet but we need to improve offensively. We need to be more clinical, we need to be more aggressive in front of the goal. In general it’s about being more aggressive in the last 30 yards.

“Listen, it’s not easy to play three times in a row away. It demands a lot of energy, a lot of concentration. We cannot blame the team because we made a lot of effort in the last three games.

“We tried our best but it’s just about being a bit more clinical because we had the chances to score. But that’s part of football. Still we need to improve and it’s not about picking out one or two players, it’s the whole team.

“We know in football that when you’re strong at the back, when you don’t concede goals, it can give you a chance to win the game – you just need one goal. But at the moment the goal doesn’t come so we need to get back on the walkway and there’s another game against Liverpool [in the League Cup] on Tuesday.

“Maybe there will be some rotation but all the players are involved and we need to be back on the winning way.”

Lloris admits Tottenham must find a way to consistently break down defensive opponents, having been frustrated by both West Brom and Bournemouth in their last two top-flight matches.

“It was the case [again on Saturday], even if they put on a lot of pressure in the first 15 minutes,” said the skipper. “They tried to play as high as possible and put pressure on – but it didn’t affect our build-up so maybe they changed the plan a bit and they maybe played a bit deeper.

“It’s true that when that’s the case you need to play a bit wider than usual, try to create space, make a lot of runs and that’s what we tried but it was not enough.

“The season is long and there are a lot of games ahead. It’s important to keep this consistency until the end and then we will see.

“But I think we could have more regrets about the West Brom game because the first half was fantastic and we just needed to score. This time that was not the case.

“Even if we had control of the ball, we didn’t create a lot of chances and maybe the credit is for the opponent on this occasion. With the quality we have in the squad, we must do better.”

Tottenham missed the chance to move to the top of the table in Saturday’s early kick-off – even if only briefly – but Lloris does not believe the opportunity affected the players.

“I don’t think so because we didn’t talk about that,” he said. “Potentially yes, we could have been first, but maybe for one or two hours. We were more focused on the game. We know it’s not an easy place to come and get the three points, and it was the case on Saturday.

“It’s true that in the changing room after the game we felt a lot of disappointment and that showed the mentality in the squad. We all know it’s not enough and we cannot be satisfied with one point.”
