To mark Spurs reaching the final of the Champions League we produced a 12-page pullout this week titled March to Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur can almost touch it. The chance to win the biggest club competition in the world and to become holders of the trophy with big ears.

Spurs, Champions League finalist is something nobody ever thought was possible and yet now they are there. And as captain Hugo Lloris said, you go to the final to win.

If Mauricio Pochettino's team can add one last happy chapter to a story which has been close to over several times, it would cap one of the most incredible wins in this historic tournament in all its existence.

Not even Bill Nicholson could lead the Lilywhites to a European Cup win and losing to Benfica in the semi-finals back in 1962 hurt him and his players for a long time.

The club's relationship with this tournament and football on the continent was underway though and glory has followed and in dramatic fashion.

A European Cup Winners' Cup was savoured in 1963 and Spurs were the first team to clinch the UEFA Cup, in its inaugural year, in 1972 beating English foes Wolverhampton Wanderers, before they won the competition again 12 years later on penalties.

Since then Tottenham have had a barren spell on overseas shores and largely on the domestic front too, but Pochettino has supporters dreaming once again.

Despite facing Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, who amassed 97 points in the Premier League this season as runners-up, there will be no fear in the Spurs ranks.

Of course they will face a great team, but after a rollercoaster of emotions in the tournament, they must believe destiny is calling at Wanda Metropolitano.

What is certain, however, is no matter what happens in Madrid, this has to be the start for Spurs in a brand new stadium.

Everything is in place for this north London club to challenge for big titles for years to come and Pochettino is key to it all.

He is set for talks with Daniel Levy after the final and the hope and expectation is those will be positive and he can begin a fresh chapter and project in N17.

The goal this time will not be to finish in the top four and simply play in the Champions League, but to challenge for that title and the Premier League consistently.

Spurs are ahead of schedule due to the Argentinian, who will become a legend with a victory in Madrid, and what better way to close one cycle and start another than with silverware at long last.

After Tottenham's wins in 1963, 1972 and 1984, the squad broke up and that cannot happen this time, but Spurs still have one game left to play this season.

To Dare Is To Do.
