With Man United hosting Liverpool on Saturday afternoon, Spurs will hope they are closer to second than fifth come full time on Sunday

Mauricio Pochettino believes Spurs find themselves in a ‘very good position’ in the Premier League table heading into the final two months of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur head to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday sitting in fourth place with a pleasing five-point cushion over Chelsea in fifth position.

Rivals Arsenal, in sixth, are 13 points off the Lilywhites and so with nine league fixtures left to play this term, Spurs appear on course for a top-four finish.

Now isn’t the time for anyone at the north London club to switch off though, with boss Pochettino acknowledging there is plenty of fighting to do if they are to play in the Champions League again next season.

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town, he said: “I’m happy. I think it was good performance and it was a very professional performance.

“To play in the Premier League, it is always tough, but our objective against Huddersfield was to win the three points and we have the three points now.

“We are in a very good position in the league table to fight and to be involved in the battle for the top-four.”

Sunday will be another test for Spurs with Bournemouth now in better form after some difficulties before Christmas.

The Cherries have not lost at Dean Court since December 17 when Liverpool thrashed them 4-0 and although Manchester City won by the same scoreline six days later at the Etihad, Eddie Howe’s team have improved a lot.

Bournemouth have won three of their last six home matches in all competitions, drawing the other three and beaten Arsenal (2-1) and Chelsea (3-0) in 2018.

When Spurs visited the south coast club last season, the game finished goalless and a similar encounter can be expected on Sunday (4pm kick-off).

Tottenham will travel a few days after Wednesday’s last 16 Champions League second leg tie with Juventus at Wembley, but that will not give them an excuse to underperform.

If Pochettino’s team want to be in Europe’s elite competition in their new 62,062 seater stadium later this year then another victory is very much the order of the day on Sunday.

With Man United entertaining Liverpool on Saturday afternoon as well, Spurs will hope they are closer to second than fifth come full time at Dean Court.
