The Argentine wants his players to remain focused despite reaching the last four of the competition on Saturday

Mauricio Pochettino has warned his Tottenham Hotspur players they are still a long way from winning silverware this season despite reaching the FA Cup semi-finals last weekend.

Spurs cruised into the last-four of the competition on Saturday with a crushing 3-0 win at Swansea City.

Christian Eriksen scored twice, once in each half, with Erik Lamela’s curling effort sandwiched in between as the Lilywhites made it back-to-back semi final appearances in the FA Cup.

Tottenham last claimed silverware in March 2008 when they won the League Cup, but Pochettino said: “A trophy is an option now. At the same time, just when you feel close to winning something, then you can be far away.

“We are going to try to win the semi-final and get to the final. Of course, it would be fantastic for the club to win a trophy.”

The north Londoners were in control at the Liberty Stadium from the off and Eriksen made their early dominance count in the 11th minute with a fine strike following neat interchange between himself and Lamela.

Pochettino’s men had various other chances to increase their lead and thought they had done so when Heung-min Son found the net in the 23rd minute.

The linesmen put his flag up for offside though, and referee Kevin Friend then checked with Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

A lengthy delay occurred before the game resumed, Pochettino said: “It’s a nightmare. I feel so sorry for the people trying to use that system.

“I think I prefer it when the ref and assistant make mistakes than to wait three or four minutes for things.

“But we now need to see the reality of how it is going to affect the staff on the touchline and the officials. It is so complex, but the worst thing for me is the effect for the fan.

“It is going to be a massive problem for the future. We will see what happens at the World Cup.”

Spurs didn’t let it affect them too much, as Lamela grabbed Tottenham’s second on the stroke of half time when he collected a pass from the impressive Moussa Sissoko and curled home from outside the area.

Eriksen scored his second and the Lilywhites’ third just past the hour mark following a Lucas Moura lay-off to secure a 3-0 success which keeps the club on track for silverware in May.
