Almost 200 people, some wearing fancy dress raised 15,000 so far for St Joseph’s hospice, striding 10 miles for the Great East End Walk.
The walkers went from the hospice in Mare Street to Bethnal Green, and St Joseph’s community fundraiser Anita Brien who hopes the amount raised will make 30,000 like last year, applauded the efforts of everyone who took part.
Elaine Jeffries who was doing the walk for the eighth time and who volunteers at the hospice said: “My friends have walked with me for the past five years and we always feel exhilarated afterwards.
“My dad was a patient at St Joseph’s some time ago and I have the pleasure each year of giving something back by raising monies for all the fantastic care they give to the people that have stayed or passed through there.”
