People aged 50 and over who have learning disabilities and live in Hackney are being invited to get together and socialise in St Mary’s Secret Garden.

Attendees will be invited to suggest their own ideas for the ‘Garden Social’ and upcoming activities could include gardening, arts and crafts, beekeeping, games, shared lunches and trips to other gardening projects. It will take place every Tuesday from 10am until 2pm at the garden in Pearson Street, Hoxton, from October 23.

Project coordinator, Siobhan MacMahon, said: “We have such a lovely space with plenty of indoor and outdoor areas to explore, and we’re really excited to work with attendees to create a fun and engaging programme of activities and events.”

The project is financed by Big Lottery Fund and coordinated by Hackney CVS, through its Connect Hackney Ageing Better programme, which aims to improve the wellbeing of people aged over 50 by preventing loneliness and isolation.
