St Peter De Beauvoir church organ is finally restored

A church is inviting its neighbours in De Beauvoir to celebrate the restoration of its organ this weekend.
St Peter De Beauvoir Town has used the organ for services ever since it was installed in 1884 and is hailed by experts as a significant example of Victorian organ building, little altered for more than 130 years.
Money for the restoration was difficult to raise until a member of the congregation left a bequest to St Peter’s two years ago. The work is now finished, and St Peter’s is celebrating at 6pm on Saturday. It will be played by guest organist Stuart Whatton from Surrey. There will also be music from local trumpeter Peter Wright and a special St Peter’s Choir.
“For once, this is a celebration, not a money-raising exercise,” saidthe vicar Rev. Julia Porter-Pryce. “We would like people to hear our ’new’ organ in action.”
Anyone who wants to go is asked to email firstname.lastname@example.org.
