A small hole has appeared in a Stamford Hill street, causing it to close until at least tomorrow afternoon.
People were told to avoid Fairholt Road after the surface cracked last night, although claims from police it was a sinkhole were shut down by the town hall.
It turns out the hole was caused by a pipe connected to the road gully getting blocked. That resulted in leaking water eroding the sub-structure over time, eventually causing it to crack.
Council contractors have been at the scene and are repairing the surface, with work scheduled to be finished by tomorrow afternoon.
