The Gazette hunts high and low each week to bring you news of the most interesting and unusual new businesses in Hackney. This week we speak to a woman whose business will give work opportunities for people with mental health issues.

A social enterprise has been set up to create a stepping stone for people with mental health issues who are struggling to get into work.

The 888 Collective has launched a shop and café in two sheds at Fount London, Westgate Street London Fields.

They plan to employ people to help design clothing and merchandise using artwork, and to host events to promote the products.

Founder Jana Dowling told the Gazette: “I set this social enterprise up having had experience of mental health issues myself, and also seeing how many people out there who suffer from them that are isolated and unable to get into a working environment - even though they are completely capable.

“We know that by providing a place where people feel comfortable and understood, we will be able to nurture the revival and growth of lost confidence and as a result, we will be able to support many people back into the workplace.”
