The Gazette hunts high and low each week to bring you news of the most interesting and unusual new businesses in Hackney. This week we speak to the curator of a new art gallery who hopes it will fill a mid-range niche in the market.
The Roaming Gallery in Kingsland Road will support young people into the commercial art world so they can make a living from what they do, and will help people who don’t usually collect art build up their own collections.
Prices will range from £30 to £3,000.
Christopher Huynh, 28, who came up with the idea, said: “The collections will be in between affordable art – which can sometimes be a bit rubbish to be honest – and works that you would find in other art galleries, which would be out of my price range even though I work in the art world. They can start at £10,000 for a painting. So instead of saying ‘I want this poster’, you can buy original art works.”
