The Gazette hunts high and low each week to bring you news of the most interesting new businesses in Hackney. This week, we spoke to Jeremy Bond – who has created personalised wooden toys for kids.

Jeremy Bond is the founder and creator of Muro, a wooden play centre for kids that can be personalised by parents.

The idea was born when his brother Tim and him first built a DIY version of the toy for his nephew Benjamin in 2013.

“We wanted it to have a broader appeal, in terms of interests and age groups. So we came up with the idea of making it modular,” said Jeremy, who lives in Hackney.

In May last year Muro launched a Kickstarter that raised almost £35,000 – and in late September the first batch of toys was delivered.

Jeremy has since won a creator award, an initiative set up by WeWork that funds individuals, start-ups and SMEs.

“I’m now working on a platform that will allow students and anyone interested in learning new skills to take up tasks that need doing and learn them on the job at Muro,” added Jeremy.
