A set of street artist Stik’s iconic ‘Sleeping Baby’ print, which was adopted as the mascot of the hospital’s junior doctors strike, raised £32,500 for Homerton Hospital this afternoon, after they came under the hammer at the prestigious auction house Christie’s.
The prints were expected to sell for £2,000 to £3,000 as a set of four in red, blue, yellow and gray.
Stik went for a cup of tea with the buyer following the sale.
The money will go towards the Homerton Hope charity.
Stik already raised £50,000 for the hospital last year by selling 500 silk screen prints of the sleeping baby which replicates a mural he painted there.
Stik, who has painted his distinctive stick-figure characters across the globe from New York to Tokyo, spent years living on the streets before he found fame, where he came under attack from thugs on more than one occasion.
He wanted to do something to “give back” to the NHS hospital which he credits with saving his life on more than one occasion.
