A Stoke Newington church will be celebrating Midsummer’s Eve and raising money for a local charity by hosting a virtual concert.
The concert, recorded at St Matthias Church on June 19, will help raise funds used to provide art packs to nearby St Matthias School, Hackney Migrant’s Centre and Sunday Migrant’s Centre Akwaaba. It will also showcase original music by Stoke Newington Residents.
The initiative of donating “much-needed” creative resources was set up with local charity DissentersArtsN16.
Ruth Whitehead, who founded the charity, said: “We’ve asked internationally acclaimed vocalist and composer Clara Sanabras and maverick musician Harvey Brough to bring light into our dreary lives by beaming magical songs from St Matthias Church.
“And they’re delighted to emerge from lockdown on the crest of an eclectic wave of original material.”
Music For Midsummer can be streamed here at 8pm on June 26.
