Fire crews are tackling a blaze at a house in Stamford Hill believed to have been struck by lightning.

Six engines and 35 firefighters are at the scene after being called just after 3pm.

Smoke can be seen billowing from the roof of the house in a video posted to the London 999 Feed Twitter page, where a tweet also claimed the house had been struck by lightning.

One person left the building before the brigade got there and 12 more were evacuated from their homes as a precaution.

London Fire Brigade said it was unclear whether lightning was to blame for the fire, which badly damaged part of the roof.

Crews from Stoke Newington, Homerton, Tottenham, Hendon. Hornsey and Leyton tackled the fire for more than an hour until it was brought under control at 4.20pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
