A Stoke Newington mum has been shortlisted in a national film competition for a short video she made about her experiences of adopting.

Sara Stoneham, who lives just off Church Street, is one of just six finalists in the contest, which is being run by the British Association for Adoption & Fostering as part of National Adoption Week, which started on Monday.

Her 37-second video features a toy frog singing Marilyn Monroe’s I Want to be Loved by You.

Sara, 52, adopted her daughter just before her first birthday. She is now four and a half.

The advertising copywriter said she wanted to encourage other people to adopt. Just seven children were adopted in Hackney last year.

“I had a great time making the film with my daughter and we’re very excited about the awards ceremony,” she said.

“Of course, the best prize would be knowing that my film has inspired someone else to think about adoption.”
