Five storytellers are set to share their personal tales of how science changed their lives, from evading ambush in the desert to painting nuclear submarines.
The event hosted by science podcast creator The Story Collider is running on Thursday night in association with the British Science Association to mark British Science Week.
Author Gaia Vince will tell a story from her book, Adventures in the Anthropocene, about evading ambush in the desert on the way to Lake Turkana, while Steve Crabtree will share his improbable career path, from a comic obsessed teenager painting nuclear submarines to editor of BBC Horizon.
French designer Nelly Ben Hayoun will share with the audience how she persuaded NASA scientists to come together to form the International Space Orchestra, Captain Henry Duffy will talk about his time as a marine researcher in the remote Pitcairn Islands, and AIDS researcher Elizabeth Pisani will outline how she learned everything she knows about science from a transsexual hooker.
The event at the Round Chapel Arts Centre in Glenarm Road, Lower Clapton, starts at 7.30pm and costs £8.
