A spectacular collection of photographs taken of Christmas Eve celebrations in a small Cuban town which are taken by an internationally renowned Cuban artist are on show to celebrate his homeland.

Alejandro Gortazar captured images of the 19th century Cuban tradition, Remedios, which sees two groups, “San Salvador” and “El Carmen”, confront each other from opposite sides of the town square in San Juan de los Remedios to enter into battle with music, colourful lanterns, light displays and fireworks.

A spokesman from 13 The Gallery where the images will be on show said: “Alejandro’s profound understanding of light, colour temperature and definition creates timeless images of ever-changing environments and cultures.

“He has come to be known internationally for his ability to create photographs often mistaken for paintings, and the striking collection of works in this exhibition will not disappoint.”

The exhibition in 13 The Gallery, 13 Green Lanes, will be on show until Sunday March 28.
