Summer festival to celebrate “vibrant” Clapton
Neighbourhood gets in party mood for spectacular two-day bash
Plans have been announced for the first ever Clapton Festival-a spectacular two-day neighbourhood summer bash.
There will be fun and frolics at the colourful community event to be held on June 11 and 12..
Stretching from Lea Bridge Road roundabout along Lower Clapton Road to Clapton Square, there will be a variety of thrilling activities.
Festival organisers are still finalising details, but among the events planned are children’s games and a fancy dress contest with a story book theme held in Clapton Square.
Adults can enjoy performances in the Sqaure by local live bands, while across the road in St John’s Church there will an evening recital of classical music.
The Round Chapel on the corner of Powerscroft Road and Lower Clapton Road will play host to a reggae soundclash featuring Solution Sound, Gladdy Wax and Trevor Sax.

One highlight will be the Clapton Walk, an amazing dance performed up and down Lower Clapton Road by students from the BSix six form centre on the cormer of Kennighall Road and pupils from Clapton Girls School in Laura Place, Lower Clapton.
Many shops and traders are also getting involved and will exhibit work by local artists and photographers.
“The festival will provide a fantastic opportunity for local people to celebrate living and working in our vibrant community,” said organiser, Louise Goodison.
