A fun day organised by Tesco raised nearly £150 for Diabetes UK on Saturday.

St Joseph’s hospice was also collecting donations on a stall outside the branch of Tesco in Well Street, where a steel pan musician entertained passers-by and store managers handed out cake.

Farana Rahin, the shops’s borough community champion, said the day went “absolutely brilliantly”.

“It’s all about giving back to the community, we’ve got loads of money so why should we not distribute money to the local schools and charities, it’s using Tesco as an enabler, we want to be able to give to everyone in the community.”
