The 52-year-old put pressure on Spurs in the build-up to the game and they responded in fine fashion at the Liberty Stadium

Swansea City boss Carlos Carvalhal praised the professionalism of Tottenham Hotspur after Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final clash at the Liberty Stadium.

The Lilywhites booked their spot in the last four of the competition with a 3-0 victory in South Wales.

Christian Eriksen was the star of the show with a double and Erik Lamela also caught the eye and grabbed a deserved goal.

Before the game, Swans manager Carvalhal admitted it was ‘David against Goliath’ at the Liberty Stadium and he admitted the visiting Londoners didn’t have the bad day he was hoping they may have.

“We did the best we’ve done in the FA Cup since 1964 and we had a very good run in this competition,” the 52-year-old Portuguese boss told BT Sport.

“We were complete underdogs and I used all the players in the squad, I used a lot or some players under 23 and we are happy about what we did in the cup.

“On the Tottenham game, I said before this type of tie we understand the difference between the teams. It is very clear.

“For a team like us to win this game two things must happen – we must be at our best level and Tottenham must have a bad day.

“But they took the game very, very seriously and caused problems for us and it was difficult for us to fight against them.

“We understand what happened and we are happy about the run we did, but now we will focus on the main competition and that’s the Premier League.”

Carvalhal had tried to increase the pressure on Spurs ahead of the last eight tie with the Swansea boss insisting: “If they lost this game it is like the end of the world.”

It didn’t affect the mindset of the Tottenham squad though and this was another test passed with flying colours.

The Champions League last-16 defeat to Juventus was disappointing, but Pochettino’s men have responded magnificently since.

Up next, after the international break, is a crunch clash at Chelsea and the end result of that contest could decide who makes the top-four this season. It is another obstacle this group must overcome.
