Danny Rose is also back in training for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of Wednesday’s European clash with Inter Milan

Jan Vertonghen could make his first start for Tottenham Hotspur in two months when Inter Milan visit in Group B of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Belgian was back on the bench for Saturday’s Premier League clash at home to London rivals Chelsea, but was not needed as Spurs secured a 3-1 triumph.

Juan Foyth and Toby Alderweireld played at centre back, but the former is not able to feature against Inter this week.

Foyth wasn’t included in Tottenham’s Champions League squad list due to a lack of homegrown players which restricted the number of spaces the club had available.

It means Vertonghen will return to the starting XI for the must-win match after last appearing for the Lilywhites in the 2-0 win at Huddersfield Town on September 29.

While the former Ajax defender is available, Spurs will be without a number of key personnel like Foyth.

Kieran Trippier (groin) and Davinson Sanchez (hamstring) are also out, but the latter has commenced individual outdoor work while the England full-back is in the final stages of his rehabilitation.

Victor Wanyama’s injury troubles continue, however, as he is still plagued by a knee issue, but midfielder Mousa Dembele is back at the training ground now after a period of time in Qatar at Aspetar following an ankle problem.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino saw left-back Danny Rose return to training this week, but whether he is fit or sharp enough to play against Inter remains to be seen.

Spurs’ manager must make a decision on a number of players with Erik Lamela set to return to the starting XI after he was on the bench last weekend.

Harry Winks will probably return to the team too as the N17 outfit look to keep alive their hopes of reaching the round of 16 stage.

After four games Tottenham are third with four points while Inter are second on seven and Spurs know only a victory will give them an outside chance of finishing Group B runners-up behind Barcelona, who they visit on December 11 for the last group game.
