Dozens of Tech City professionals combined forces with Hackney Council in the first-ever event to improve the council's digital services.

The Hack-ney-thon on November 15 and 16 gathered more than 70 developers and programmers to design solutions for key services to make them easier for residents to use.

These included an online system to register births, marriages and deaths and a way of people finding out about commercial properties for sale.

The seven teams also competed for the title of Hackney Hacker 2014.

The winning entry was Jacopo Hirschstein’s Fix Hackney, which allows the public to report and track response times and spending for areas of the borough that require different services such as graffiti removal or maintenance repair. The solution impressed judges from Tech City UK, Hackney Council and MiniBar Labs for its usefulness, technical sophistication, creativity, cost effectiveness and impact on the lives of residents.
