The Hackney branch of the non-profit organisation TED, which is devoted to "ideas worth spreading" has organised a conference next week, focusing on how experience shapes our lives, art and potential for healing.

TEDxHackney is an independently organised offshoot of TED, which began as a conference in California 26 years ago.

The idea is to use video screenings and live speakers to spark deep group discussion as well as connection in small groups, and speakers at the event in the Arcola Theatre in Ashwin Street have been drawn from a wide range of disciplines and approaches including visual and performance art, architecture, literature, music, technology, philosophy and psychology.

They include radio critic at The Spectator, Kate Chisholm, who has written about her experience of anorexia and its treatment in the 1970s and award winning poet and performer Inua Ellams.

The event takes place on Saturday June 29 from 11am to 5pm. For more information see www.ted.com/tedx.
