An unusual supermarket offering an alternative to multinationals has revealed the site in Homerton where it might set up a store.

Member-owned social enterprise The People’s Supermarket (TPS) has earmarked a building in Sedgwick Street – but still wants to hear whether Homerton and Hackney residents would support its second store.

TPS featured in a Channel 4 documentary earlier this year, when celebrity chef Arthur Potts Dawson helped establish the social enterprise in Bloomsbury.

The Bloomsbury supermarket is mainly staffed by its 1200 member volunteers, and prides itself on stocking local and responsibly sourced food.

The Sedgwick Street site is owned by social housing group Viridian Housing which is struggling to let the three empty business units.

Open days on site take place this afternoon (Friday September 30) from 3pm to 7pm and on Saturday October 1 from 11am to 3pm.

There will also be a stall at Chatsworth Road Market on Sundays until October 9.

TPS will present the final draft for public discussion at Chats Palace in Brooksby’s Walk on Tuesday October 25 from 4pm.

This will be the last chance to provide feedback before the report is presented to the Hackney Regeneration Team in November.
